it's been a hectic 10 days
so i was calmly preparing for a busy spring break last thursday morning when i received an unexpected email. i had applied for this two-year trainee position with Telenor, Norway's largest telecom company, mainly just as an exercise in job applications. then i receive this email inviting me to a day-long workshop and interview session at the company's main office. I wrote them back a nice letter thanking them very much for the invitation and explaining that I'm a senior with 3 weeks left on my thesis and I really couldn't manage a trip back to Norway but that I could be available for a phone interview if that would be possible. About 15mins later the lady calls me (!) and during our conversation I learn that I am one of 30 people invited to this interview - out of an application pool of over 1500 - and that the company will pay for my flight home. yikes! one of those offers you really can't pass up...
with that on my mind, I hopped on a train up to Rochester to visit the tall blond one for a few days... and his puppy : ) had a really great time being a tourist up at niagara falls, chilling at justin's house and playing with the puppy and watching movies. also went to a neat museum and got to run around trying to get some sweet pictures of some awesome butterflies. the results are here.
then joined up with my father in albany and we drove up to Mont Tremblant in Canada in the middle of the weirdest storm I've ever seen - 14 degrees F and rain => windshield freezing over and stuck behind a plow going 20 on the freeway.... fun. However, up at the mountain the storm dumped 2 feet of snow and so we finally had some great skiing conditions. cold though. very cold. -26degrees FAHRENHEIT cold. yeah. bring it! the skiing was awesome, after we figured out how to fight off the frostbite.... heeh. skied more moguls than i should have, and had so much fun doing it! weeeheeee! and ate baguettes and croissants like it was my job.
now I'm back at vassar for less than 24hrs before I fly home to do this interview thingie. which i'm all of a sudden really nervous about. i mean, i could have a job as of sept if this goes well, and this company sounds really really interesting - i spent an hour at the cloisters researching them and i'm totally interested. now all i have to do is sweep in, impress them with my bubbling personality and new pinstriped suit and dazzle them enough for them to want me. no sweat. right.
and then i get to come back here and try to pull off my thesis in three weeks. good luck. oh, and did i mention that my best friends at home just got engaged? they did. never a boring moment in the life of lara. : )
